Occupational Safety Issues in the Mingyang International Fire
Over the years, the countless explosion occupational safety accidents have occurred in Taiwan have been not only a back-end fire protection problem, but also a problem of inadequate advance separation of explosion hazard zones. In response to the very serious dust and gas explosion safety accidents in the factory warehouse of Mingyang International Technology Co., Ltd. in Pingtung County, Taiwan on the evening of 2023/09/22, WanJiun has something to say.
1. Our recommendations for the government and factory owners are as follows:
(1) The government and relevant agencies are urged to pay attention to the guidance and supervision of factories, establish an IECEx Certificate of Personnel Competence (CoPC) system for explosion prevention personnel, reduce the occurrence of occupational safety accidents, and ensure the safety of people's lives and property.
(2) Taiwan already has ETC, ITRI, ISTI,TERTC, and many other qualified certification institutions for explosion prevention products in addition to UL, CSA, TUV SUD, TUV Rheinland, and other institutions, through which people can be trained and certified for the IECEx (CoPC) system. The government is urged to quickly develop a complete safety explosion prevention plan.
(3) In addition to complying with government policies, factories should conduct regular and comprehensive safety inspections of their facilities.
2. Recent milestones at WanJiun:
(1) In 2017, WanJiun Technology was the first company in the industry to launch a plant inspection service on explosion prevention. It is committed to advancing the development of Taiwan's explosion prevention industry, and it hopes that there will be no more explosion industrial safety accidents in Taiwan.
(2) WanJiun Technology obtained 2 international certificates of IECEx Certificate of Personnel Competence (CoPC), in 2019 and 2021, respectively.
(3) Completed the explosion prevention equipment projects at many well-known manufacturers on the island, such as Formosa Plastics, Nan Ya Plastics, Formosa Chemical & Fiber, Formosa Petrochemical, Far East, CPC, China Steel, TECO, Chimei, Winbond, Scino Pharm Taiwan, and Inotera Memories.
(4) In 2020, WanJiun Technology completed the physical classrooms project for the education and training center for the prevention of electrical explosions at Formosa Plastics Company's Mailiao plant, an explosion prevention training classroom that meets CoPC specifications.
(5) In 2023, WanJiun completed the dust explosion prevention project at Formosa Plastics MBS Plant in Linyuan.
